Academic System
UTHECS operates a bi-semester system with each academic year consisting of two semesters.
Academic Calendar
Each semester is composed of 16 weeks:
- 14 weeks of study
- 2 weeks of examination
The beginning and end dates of each semester and other important dates for events appear on the academic calendar.
Definition of Terms
The credit (or semester) hour is the basic unit of academic credit granted by UTHECS for the satisfactory completion of a course. It reflects the Carnegie unit which has served as the traditional unit of measure in higher education. One credit hour is composed of both faculty instruction time and student preparation time.
A course which must be completed prior to admission into another course.
The pattern of courses leading to a specific educational objective. They are sequential offerings which meet educational objectives.
Applying credit hours earned at one educational institution to the completion of an Academic program at another institution. The rule which applies to most transfers is that the grade earned in a transferred course must be 'C' or above, and the course must be similar to a course offered in the college to which the transfer is made.
